I’m considering a Rodenstock Sironar-N 240mm f/5.6 MC for use on a 4x5 large format camera. Is it compatible, and are there any practical concerns I should check before buying, such as image circle, lens board fit, bellows extension, or use on folding 4x5 cameras?

As long as you have a lens board that will take the shutter and a bellows that will allow extension to your closes planned focusing distance, you're good to go. You're very unlikely to run into any problems with movements with that lens; it has enough coverage that you'd be tying your bellows in knots before you run onto issues.

Yes—generally a Rodenstock Sironar-N 240mm f/5.6 is a good match for 4x5. Its image circle is much larger than the 4x5 format requires, so coverage should not be a problem and it should allow movements without issue.
The main things to verify are:
- lens board/shutter fit: make sure your camera has a lens board that fits the shutter size used by the lens
- physical size: some folding 4x5 cameras may have trouble with larger lenses or front standard clearance
- bellows extension: your camera needs enough bellows draw to focus a 240mm lens, especially for closer subjects
So the lens is compatible in principle, but practical fit depends on your specific camera body, lens board, and bellows capacity.
