A part has come off the head of my Mars PT-21 tripod, and I want to know the common market name for the missing piece so I can replace it. I’d like to mount a typical Canon autofocus camera, or other common cameras, if possible. The tripod may be discontinued. What is this part usually called, and is there a practical replacement option?

You will probably not find the missing part of the tripod head, at least for less than the price of a complete tripod.

See if you can unscrew the rest, and if you end up with a 3/8" or 1/4" screw you can mount a standard tripod ballhead such as this.

The missing piece is most likely part of the tripod head rather than a camera-specific adapter. In practice, the easiest solution is usually not to hunt for the exact original part—especially on an older or discontinued tripod—but to replace the head.

Check whether the remaining top fitting can be unscrewed. If, after removing it, you find a standard tripod mounting screw/thread such as 1/4-inch or 3/8-inch, you can attach a standard replacement tripod head, such as a ball head. Those are widely available and work with most cameras.

Your camera then mounts to the replacement head using the usual tripod screw/plate system. This is generally more practical than trying to find the exact missing part from the original PT-21 head.
