The rubber piece on the back of my Nikon D90 where my thumb rests has come loose after years of heavy use. The adhesive seems to have failed, and the rubber has stretched so it no longer fits properly. What is this part called, and is it available as a replacement from Nikon?

I think this is the part you're looking for: http://shop.nikonusa.com/store/nikonprt/en_US/pd/productID.255748700

It's called a "Cover Rubber" and it quite cheap in the Nikon parts store. Have to admit, I never would have called it that...

Yes — that piece is commonly listed by Nikon as a "cover rubber". It’s the rubber grip/thumb-rest section attached to the camera body.

If it has come loose and stretched, replacing it is usually the right fix rather than trying to force the old piece back into place. According to the community answer, Nikon sells this part through its parts store for the D90.

So the term to search for is Nikon D90 cover rubber or thumb grip rubber. If ordering, make sure you get the correct rear/back rubber piece for your exact camera model.
