Nikon 18-55mm kit lens A/M switch is hard to move — repair or replace?

On a Nikon D5100 with the 18-55mm kit lens, autofocus works normally, but switching to manual focus is difficult because the A/M switch seems stiff or only works when pressed hard. Can this switch be repaired on its own, or does the whole lens usually need repair or replacement?

The lens is broken - if it is under warranty get it to a Nikon service center (or maybe the place you bought it from) to be repaired or replaced.
If the lens isn't under warranty then you can often get a used kit lens for less than the repair cost (because of all the people buying the kit and then upgrading the lens)
