I want the camera to show flashing overexposed areas (“blinkies”) when reviewing photos on my Canon 700D / Rebel T5i, but I can’t find the setting. How do I display the highlight alert, and does it work in full-screen playback?

On the top of page 272 in the manual for the 700D it says:

When the shooting information is displayed, any overexposed areas of the image will blink. To obtain more image detail in the overexposed areas, set the exposure compensation to a negative amount and shoot again.

Meaning switch to the shooting information display, by pressing INFO and you'll get the highlight alert.

On the Canon 700D / Rebel T5i, the overexposure warning appears during image review when you switch to the shooting information / histogram playback display.

Press INFO while reviewing an image to cycle through the playback screens. In the display that shows the histogram and shooting info, overexposed highlights will blink on the image preview.

A key limitation on the 700D is that this highlight alert does not appear in full-screen image playback. You need to use one of the info/histogram views, where the image is shown smaller alongside the histogram and other data.

If you don’t see it at first, keep pressing INFO to cycle through the available playback screens.
