How do I connect a Canon EOS 70D to an Android phone with Canon Camera Connect?

I can enable Wi‑Fi on my Canon EOS 70D, create a nickname, choose camera access point mode, and connect my Android phone to the camera’s Wi‑Fi network. But when I open Canon Camera Connect, it says the camera is not connected and tells me to operate the camera to establish a connection. On the camera, I only see a message saying to start the EOS app on the smartphone, with no other option except Cancel.

What am I missing, and are there any common fixes for getting the 70D to connect reliably to Android?

In my experience your step #6 can be a bit unpredictable. I have found that I have to go through the steps quite quickly or the WiFi on my Canon DSLR will turn off. I also have found that even after my smartphone connects to the WiFi of the DSLR, I have to click on "Images on Camera" a few times to refresh the app or something, then it finally works.

Also, make sure you are using the newest app. Canon recently moved from "EOS Remote" to "Camera Connect" although the apps are basically identical in use.

A few things commonly help with the 70D/Android connection process:

  • Make sure you’re using Canon’s current app: Camera Connect (Canon replaced the older EOS Remote app).
  • After your phone joins the camera’s Wi‑Fi network, open Camera Connect and try tapping Images on Camera more than once. Some users find the app needs a refresh before it sees the camera.
  • Do the steps fairly quickly. On some Canon bodies the Wi‑Fi session can time out or drop if you pause too long.
  • Turn off the phone’s mobile data (3G/4G/5G) temporarily. Some Android phones prefer cellular data and won’t properly use the camera’s Wi‑Fi connection until mobile data is disabled.

If Canon’s app still won’t connect, another option mentioned by users is using a wired Android control app such as DSLR Controller with a suitable USB connection, though that’s an alternative workflow rather than a fix for Canon Camera Connect.

So the main fixes are: update the app, disable mobile data, retry/refresh inside the app, and complete the connection steps promptly.
