In Lightroom 3's Develop module, I have several photos selected in the filmstrip/secondary display, but when I change a setting like Exposure only the active photo updates. How can I make Develop changes apply to all selected images at once?

Yes: hold down command (ctrl on windows) and the 'Sync' button on the bottom of the development pane (i.e., the lower right) becomes 'Auto Sync', which will apply any changes to the whole selection.

The switch on the sync button toggles Auto Sync on and off more permanently.

Yes. In Lightroom 3, select the photos you want to edit, then in the Develop module use Auto Sync instead of Sync.

At the bottom-right of the Develop panel, the Sync button has a small toggle beside it. Click that toggle to switch Sync to Auto Sync. When Auto Sync is enabled, any Develop adjustment you make to the active photo is applied to all selected photos.

You can also temporarily access it by holding Command on Mac (Ctrl on Windows), which changes Sync to Auto Sync.

Another option is to edit one image first, then copy and paste the Develop settings to the others:

  • Right-click the edited image: Develop Settings → Copy Settings
  • Select the target photos
  • Right-click: Develop Settings → Paste Settings

This is useful if you only want to transfer specific adjustments.
