How do I stop Lightroom 5 from applying reject flags to all selected photos?

In Lightroom 5, I used to be able to select several images, keep one photo active, and press X to reject only that active image. Now when multiple photos are selected, pressing X rejects every selected image instead. How can I restore the old behavior so rating/flagging changes apply only to the active photo?

The answer to this is that Auto-Sync was on. Turn it off and the behavior reverts. (http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?13307-how-do-I-turn-off-auto-sync)
[Y]ou can use the menu bar: in Library go to Metadata menu and uncheck Enable Auto-Sync. In Develop, the Enable Auto-Sync option is in the Settings menu.

This happens when Auto Sync is enabled. With Auto Sync on, Lightroom applies certain changes to all selected photos instead of only the active one.
Turn off Auto Sync and the normal behavior returns.
Where to find it:
- In Library: go to Metadata and uncheck Enable Auto-Sync
- In Develop: go to Settings and uncheck Enable Auto-Sync
After disabling it, actions like pressing X to reject should affect only the active photo in the selection.
