How can I see what adjustments a Lightroom preset contains?

I want to inspect an existing Lightroom preset to see exactly which settings it changes (for example, Saturation -10 and Contrast +20). Is there a way to view the individual parameters that make up a preset?

Yes. Find the preset file and open it in a text editor. You'll be able to see the adjustments applied.

To find your preset folder, open the Lightroom preferences, click on Presets at the top, then click the Show Lightroom Presets Folder button. This will open the presets folder, then you can go into the Develop Presets, find the one you want, and open the .lrtemplate file in a text editor.

Yes. Lightroom presets are stored as preset files, and you can inspect them directly.

In Lightroom, either:

  • open Preferences > Presets and click Show Lightroom Presets Folder, then go to Develop Presets, or
  • right-click the preset and choose Show in Explorer/Finder (if available).

Then open the preset file in a plain text editor such as Notepad or any code/text editor. In older Lightroom versions, these are typically .lrtemplate files. The file lists the parameters and values used by the preset, so you can see which adjustments it applies.

You can also edit the file manually or use it as the basis for a new preset, but make a backup first in case you want to restore the original.
