How can I preview different darktable styles quickly without stacking them?

In darktable, I want to compare several downloaded styles on the same photo. In lighttable I can apply a style, but applying another one often adds on top of the previous style unless I clear the history stack each time, which is cumbersome. Is there a quicker way to preview styles one by one without stacking them, and can styles also be applied directly in darkroom mode?

The interface for applying styles in darkroom mode is the button on the left side of the bottom toolbar below the image display (if the toolbar is not visible, click the white triangle to toggle it). After applying and viewing the style, you can use the Ctrl+z shortcut to revert to the previous history stack before applying a different style.
If you want to easily compare a few styles at the same time, you can create duplicates of the image in lighttable mode, and apply a different style to each. You should duplicate the image with a basic default history stack, since this is probably what the creator of the style intended it to be applied to (but there's no way to be certain, unless it's stated explicitly). Many of the downloadable styles are quite old, and may not use the best available features in recent darktable releases, so keep that in mind.

Yes. In darkroom mode, you can apply styles using the button on the left side of the bottom toolbar beneath the image. If that toolbar is hidden, click the white triangle to show it.
To test styles one at a time without them building up, apply a style, inspect the result, then use Ctrl+Z to revert to the previous history stack before trying the next style. That is the quickest way to avoid manually discarding history each time.
If you want to compare several styles side by side, a better approach is to create duplicate copies of the image in lighttable and apply a different style to each duplicate.
It’s also best to test styles on an image with only the basic default history stack, since many styles are intended to be applied to a relatively untouched image. Older downloadable styles may also not reflect newer darktable tools or best practices.
