Canon GP-E2 not detected by Map Utility on Mac

I’m using a Canon GP-E2 with a Canon 5DS R. It writes GPS data to my images correctly, but when I connect the GP-E2 to my Mac by USB and open Canon Map Utility, the software says it can’t find the device. I’m on OS X Yosemite 10.10.5. Has anyone else had this issue, and is there a fix so I can view the route data I’ve collected?

Problem solved - I contacted canon and they gave me a (free of charge) link to the latest software - all working perfectly now.

This was resolved by updating the Canon software. Canon support provided a link to the latest version of Map Utility/software for the GP-E2, and after installing it the device was detected and worked normally.
So if your GP-E2 is writing GPS data to images but Map Utility on macOS can’t see the device over USB, the most likely fix is to install the newest Canon utility/software version compatible with your Mac.
