Can I use a portable power pack to charge my Sony camera battery while traveling or hiking?

I use a Sony DSC-W570 with a small 600mAh battery, and even with a spare battery I may not have enough power for a full day or multi-day trip without access to a wall outlet. Is there a portable battery pack I can keep in a backpack and use with my camera’s regular charger to recharge batteries on the go? I’ve mostly found USB phone chargers, so I’m wondering if a portable power pack with an inverter or similar solution would work for this kind of camera battery charging.

Obviously it's a little easier if you can get a USB charger, but no worries- this is still pretty easy. What you are looking for is a "power pack". These are accessory batteries with USB and/or inverters built in. They are generally designed to charge a laptop on the go, so running small(er) battery chargers is even easier.

Here's an older model on Amazon with an inverter. I can find plenty of newer and better models but they appear to be USB-only.

Yes. What you’re looking for is generally called a portable power pack. Some models include USB outputs, and some also include an AC inverter. If your camera battery charger normally plugs into a wall outlet, a power pack with an AC outlet/inverter can run that charger from a larger internal battery while you’re away from mains power.

These products are often marketed for charging laptops, so powering a small camera battery charger is typically within their intended use. In practice, you could charge one camera battery from the power pack while using your spare, then swap as needed.

If you can find a USB charger made specifically for your camera battery, that may be even simpler, but an inverter-equipped power pack is the more general solution.
