I have a Canon EOS 1100D and want to leave it powered on for extended periods. Is there a way to use it without a normal battery and connect it to continuous external power instead?

Yes. The Canon EOS 1100D can be powered continuously with an AC adapter kit made for that camera. The commonly mentioned option is the Canon ACK-E10 adapter kit, which replaces the battery with a dummy battery and routes the power cable through the battery compartment door.
Canon offers AC adapters for many EOS models, and third-party versions also exist. If you choose a third-party adapter, use a reputable one to reduce the risk of damaging the camera.
A DIY “battery simulator” solution was also mentioned, but unless you are confident with electronics and voltage regulation, the safer choice is a proper adapter designed for the camera.
