How can I power a Nikon D3500 continuously for long recording sessions?

I use a Nikon D3500 connected to my desktop PC and want to keep it powered on for 7–8 hours at a time. The standard battery does not last long enough. Is there a way to run the camera from wall power instead of the battery, and are there any risks with leaving it on or recording that long?

Nikon produces a battery adapter for the EN-EL14a battery in your camera. With this you can power the camera directly with a wallplug. This can be found for example here on amazon.com
But keep in mind: the d3500 is not build to film over such a long time. so the sensor can get heat problems, damages and can die faster.

Yes. The usual solution is an AC power adapter/dummy battery made for the Nikon EN-EL14a battery used by the D3500. It replaces the camera battery and lets you run the camera from a wall outlet for extended sessions.
However, be careful: the D3500 is not really designed for very long continuous video use. Leaving it recording for 7–8 hours can generate heat at the sensor and internal electronics, which may cause overheating, shutdowns, or shorten the camera’s lifespan over time.
So the practical answer is:
- Use a compatible EN-EL14a AC adapter/dummy battery kit for continuous power.
- Make sure the adapter is specifically compatible with the D3500/EN-EL14a.
- Expect possible heat-related limits if recording continuously for many hours.
If your use case is long-duration desktop/video capture, a camera designed for extended continuous operation may be a better fit.
