Can a Panasonic Lumix LX10 be powered externally instead of hacking the battery?

I use a Panasonic Lumix LX10 with Wi-Fi remote control because of a physical disability, but battery life is very short. Rather than opening up a battery pack and wiring in my own external power source, is there a proper way to run the camera from an external battery or AC/USB power source? Is a dummy battery available for the LX10, and is that the safer option compared with modifying a battery pack?

No need to hack up something yourself, this already exists, google for "DMW-BLH7E BLH7 Dummy Battery DMW-DCC15" (around $20 on Amazon US).

Yes. The practical and safer solution is to use a compatible dummy battery/external coupler rather than modifying a battery yourself. Community guidance points to a BLH7-type dummy battery solution for the LX10, such as a DMW-BLH7/DMW-DCC15 style coupler.

That approach is preferable because camera batteries can include protection circuitry, and DIY wiring to the battery contacts risks incorrect voltage, poor regulation, or damage to the camera. A purpose-made dummy battery is designed to fit the battery compartment and provide stable external power.

If you want to run from a USB power hub, look for a dummy battery kit that explicitly supports USB input or a regulated adapter made for the camera’s battery type. The key is using the correct coupler and correct regulated voltage for the LX10 rather than hacking the original battery pack.
