The Pentax K1000 became a favorite among photography enthusiasts since its introduction in 1976. It is designed to work with Pentax K mount lenses. This camera employs TTL open aperture exposure metering. The rubberized silk focal plane shutter offers a maximum speed of 1/1000th of a second. You get a 0.88× magnification of the scene you intend to capture with the pentaprism viewfinder, which also shows over- and under-exposure limits on the right side. An electronic flash can be mounted onto the camera by means of the hot shoe.
Optics and Focus
The K1000 camera is designed for use with Pentax K-mount lenses. With CdS cell-TTL exposure metering, the camera provides a working range of EV 3 to 18. The exposure can be manually adjusted from 20 to 3200. The rubberized silk focal plane shutter offers speeds of up to 1/1000th of a second for crisp shots of fast-paced objects.
Sensor and Screen
The pentaprism viewfinder offers split image and cross-microprism focusing methods. You can see the final picture with a magnification of 0.88× with a 50mm lens focused at infinity. The viewfinder also assists you with exposure metering by indicating high or low exposure limits. The viewfinder comes with a −1m diopter eyepiece.
Image and Video
The Pentax K1000 SLR camera captures shots with a 35mm film. You can advance the film by using the single-stroke rapid wind lever, offering a 160° throw and 10° stand-off angle. An indicator beside the shutter release button shows whether the film is cocked or not. The instant-return mirror automatically comes back to its initial viewing position after exposure.
Other Features
The camera's hot shoe enables you to mount an external flash unit. The camera offers X-synchronization with a shutter speed up to 1/60th of a second. A self-additive counter is provided to show the number of exposed frames. The frame counter automatically resets if the camera back is opened. You can check the status of the batteries by referring to the exposure metering needle. If the needle is near the positive mark, then the batteries can be considered to be in working condition. The camera is powered by a single 1.5V silver oxide or alkaline battery.
