The Nikon N8008 Film SLR was introduced in 1988 as the successor of the N2020. It is the second Nikon SLR to feature TTL phase-detection. It is designed to work with Nikon F-mount lenses. You can use the camera in the EV range of -1 to 19 at ISO 100. There are three exposure metering methods and four exposure modes to get the right results in different lighting conditions. The optical viewfinder offers 0.75× magnification and screen coverage of 92%. You can view the camera settings on the top LCD panel. With the automatic film advance, you can capture photographs at up to 3.3 fps. The camera allows the attachment of data backs such as the Nikon MF-21 multi-control back or MF-20 world time data back.
Optics and Focus
The Nikon N8008 accepts F-mount lenses. You can select the exposure metering pattern from center-weighted, matrix, and spot methods. The three auto exposure modes assist you when adjusting the image parameters. You can also manually set the exposure with the fourth mode. The autofocus is achieved through TTL phase detection by Nikon Advanced AM200 module. You have the option to select the single servo for still objects and continuous servo for subject tracking. Manual focusing is done by using the electronic rangefinder.
Sensor and Screen
The camera has an optical viewfinder with 0.75× magnification and 92% frame coverage for image composition. While framing the scene through the viewfinder, you can see the shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, flash ready, and other information. The same information is also viewable on the top-panel LCD along with the film advance mode, frame counter, DX mark, and more.
Image and Video
The Nikon N8080 takes exposures on 35mm film rolls. With the automatic film loading, the film advances to the first frame when the shutter release button is depressed. You can select the burst mode for capturing consecutive photographs. The continuous shooting rate can reach up to 3.3 fps and can come as low as 2.0 fps. This Nikon SLR takes up to 9 exposures on a single frame to create a unique multi-exposure effect. The camera automatically sets the ISO for DX-coded films.
Other Features
This Nikon SLR camera has a hot shoe for mounting an external flash. You can attach a remote via the terminal located on the left front side to take long-exposure shots. The self-timer function enables you to set the shutter-release delay from 2 to 30 seconds. Check the depth of field with the dedicated DOF button. The Nikon N8080 SLR has a metal body with a 1/4-inch tripod located below. Use four AA batteries to power the camera.
