Step to the professional level of independent filmmaking with the Canon EOS-1D X DSLR camera. Designed to fit Canon EF-mount lenses, the camera utilizes the full potential of the 18.1 MP CMOS sensor and dual DIGIC 5+ image processors to render high-resolution imagery and provide enhanced low-light performance with reduced noise. The camera can record 1080p videos at a frame rate of 30 fps. The 3.2-inch 1.04m-dot ClearView II LCD gives a comfortable view of the scene even in bright lighting. Also, the intelligent viewfinder covers 100% of the frame area when shooting from the eye-level position. The dust- and moisture-resistant magnesium alloy body makes it possible to use the camera in inclement weather.

Optics and Focus

The Canon EOS-1D X DSLR works with EF-mount lenses. You can set the exposure metering method to average, center-weighted average, multi-zone, or spot metering. The 61-point high-density reticular AF system uses its offset array sensor to deliver precise and fast autofocus response. There are 252 unique zones in the 100,000-pixel RGB Metering sensor intended for general metering while 35 zones are assigned for low-light metering. With the recent update, the AF points illuminate when you select the AI Servo AF option. Also, the cross-type AF can work with lens aperture down to f/8.0.

Sensor and Screen

This Canon DSLR offers 17.9 MP images with its 18.1 MP full-frame CMOS sensor. It also offers better light sensitivity over previous models with the new photodiode structure having a fast photoelectric conversion rate. The sensor has an Ultrasonic Wave Motion Cleaning unit that keeps the surface free of dust. The 3.2-inch ClearView II LCD lets you frame the scene in 1.04m-dot resolution. You can set the display lines to 9 or 24 sections, or to 9 sections with diagonals. A magnify and reduce button is provided to allow reviewing the image. The intelligent viewfinder has a 0.76× magnification and screen coverage of 100%. It also has an aspherical lens to reduce distortion when viewing the scene. An LCD panel is provided at the top to review the camera settings.

Image and Video

The camera offers a maximum resolution of 5184×3456 dpi to the still images. You have an option to choose between JPEG and RAW format. In the movie mode, the camera captures Full HD 1080p videos at 30 fps. The camera has a continuous shooting rate of 12 fps for RAW+JPEG frames and 14 fps for only JPEG frames. With the dual DIGIC 5+ image processors, the camera performance during burst shooting and video recording is increased. Also, the dual image processors provide real-time chromatic aberration compensation for both images and videos. With the in-camera RAW processing, the camera allows you to streamline the post-production flow.

Other Features

The camera provides a hot shoe, PC terminal, and wireless connectivity option to use an external flash. You can synchronize the connected flash with the shutter speed at 1/250th of a second. The dual CF card recording slots allow you to prioritize the primary and secondary storage space. Also, you can save two copies of the same image in two cards in different formats or create back-up for safekeeping.
