Condition: Good
The Canon AE-1 SLR is known as the first microprocessor-equipped camera that was introduced in 1976. This camera has the Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C lens included with it in the box. You can also fit other Canon FD mount lenses to the camera. The camera comes with a shutter-priority based exposure mode that is implemented via the center-weighted TTL metering with a silicon photocell. This camera has an adjustable ISO range of ASA 25 to 3200 and a maximum shutter speed of 1/1000th of a second. There is a dedicated lever to stopped-down the lens. The hot shoe contact is incorporated into the camera design to mount an electronic flash or flashbulb. The Canon AE-1 SLR camera includes other features such as exposure correction, self-timer, and battery check.
Focus and Optics
The provided Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 S.S.C lens is ideal for portrait photography. Its optical construction comprises 7 elements in 6 groups. The elements have the special spectra coating that reduces reflections to provide clarity and high color fidelity. With the 8 aperture blades, the lens offers a rounded bokeh. A silicon photocell powers the TTL center-weighted exposure metering. When you select the shutter-priority mode, the lens aperture is adjusted by keeping the shutter speed fixed. The AE lock avoids overexposure created by a bright background or foreground. Increase the shutter speed up to of 1/1000th of a second to take clear shots of moving objects.
Sensor and Screen
The Canon AE-1's fixed eye-level pentaprism viewfinder offers frame coverage of 93.5% and 96% on the vertical and horizontal axis respectively. Camera-related information such as aperture, metering needle, and a stopped-down metering index is shown in the viewfinder.
Image and Video
This camera takes pictures on 35mm film rolls. You can set the ISO range from ASA 25 to 3200. The single-stroke advance lever is meant for winding the film, which has a 120° throw and a 30° stand-off angle. The self-additive frame counter resets to the initial count if the camera back is opened.
Other Features
The camera comes with a hot shoe for attaching both electronic flash and bulbs. You can synchronize the electronic flash up to 1/60th and flashbulb to 1/15th of a second. The self-timer allows you to delay the shutter release for 10 seconds. Depress the battery check to cancel the self-timer. The exposure metering functions of Canon AE-1 are powered by a single 6V silver oxide battery.
