There are up to 425 AF areas of phase detection and contrast detection points in the AF system, covering 84% of the imaging area. The real-time tracking along with the real-time eye AF keeps subjects in focus even if they are moving at a rapid pace. With the mechanical shutter, you can take photos of fast-moving objects without the rolling shutter effect. The electronic shutter is useful when photographing wildlife.

Record videos in log gamma profiles such as the S-Log2 and S-Log3 to add LUTs when color grading the footage. An HDMI port is provided to connect an HLG-compatible monitor for viewing the gamma footage in normal colors. The zebra function makes it easy to see overexposed areas. You can record time-lapse sequences with the interval timer by setting the duration between 1 to 60 seconds.

The Sony a6400 links to your smartphone or tablet with its built-in Wi-Fi and NFC. After connecting the camera to your handheld device, you can transfer images from the a6400 or remote control it via the Sony PlayMemories app. The built-in flash allows you to capture photos in low light.
