Overview
The Sony Alpha a6400 Mirrorless Digital Camera brings all the well-acclaimed features of its predecessors along with new ones in a compact body. Its fast autofocus system, which delivers a response in 0.02 s seconds, ensures accuracy during both photo and video applications. The a6400 utilizes the 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS image sensor and the upgraded BIONZ X image processor to produce UHD 4K videos as well as offer crisp imagery in the 11 fps continuous shooting mode. Both the sensor and image processor improve the low light performance as well. The 3.0-inch LCD has a tilting movement of 180° in the upward direction for supporting vlogging. For eye-level shooting, you can use the XGA OLED Tru-finder EVF. The continuous shooting mode lets you freeze a particular moment in a series of snapshots. You can record videos in S-Log2 and S-Log3 to get control over final look by using LUTs. The Wi-Fi with NFC simplifies image transfer and remote shooting from your smartphone.
Optics and Focus
The a6400 mirrorless camera is paired with the Sony E 16–50mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS lens. It includes one Extra-low Dispersion glass and four aspherical elements to minimize chromatic and spherical aberrations. You can also attach other Sony E-mount lenses on the camera. The lens has a power zoom mechanism that let you smoothly change the focal length without any jerks. The lens' stepping AF motor synchronizes with camera's fast autofocus system for providing focus acquisition in 0.02 seconds. In the hybrid autofocus system, you get up to 425 AF zones of phase detection and contrast detection points that cover up to 84% of the imaging area. The real-time tracking along with the real-time eye AF ensures the moving subjects are always in focus. You can choose the mechanical shutter for capturing fast moving objects without any distortion. The electronic shutter is ideal for wildlife photography where one requires utter silence while taking photos of animals.
Sensor and Screen
The Sony a6400 offers quality and enhanced low-light sensitivity thanks to the 24.2MP APS-C Exmor CMOS image sensor. You can capture photos or videos with minimal grain at an ISO level of 6400. With the 3-inch tilting LCD, it is easy to record vlogs as well as take high or low angle shots. The touchscreen functionality helps you to focus on a particular part as well as access different menus with ease. An XGA Tru-finder EVF is located on the side, which offers a 2.36m-dot resolution. You can easily track fast-moving subject without any lag by using the EVF's 120 fps mode.
Image and Video
The Sony a6400 mirrorless digital camera provides UHD 4K videos at a frame rate of 30 fps. You can select the Full HD mode as an alternative. In the 1080p mode, you are able to create slow and quick-motion videos by setting the frame rate from 1 to 120 fps. The camera also captures 24 MP photos in a maximum resolution of 6000×4000 pixels in JPEG or RAW. You can also take continuous shots at 11 fps with the mechanical shutter and 8 fps with the electronic shutter. The professional picture profiles such as the S-Log2 and S-Log3 gamma let you add LUTs for color grading the video as per need. With the HDMI port, an HLG-compatible monitor can be connected for viewing the footage in normal colors. The zebra function enables you to identify overexposed areas in the scene. With the interval timer, you can shoot time-lapse images with a duration between 1 to 60 seconds.
Other Features
The built-in Wi-Fi and NFC allows you to send photos to smartphone or remote control the camera via the Sony PlayMemories app. With the built-in flash, the camera can be used to take photos in low light. You may also mount an external strobe on the hot shoe. The camera allows you to connect an external microphone to the 3.5mm audio input for recording high-quality sound. Use the 8 customizable keys assign up to 89 functions. The camera body is constructed from durable magnesium-alloy. This Sony mirrorless camera is powered by an NP-FW50 Li-ion battery.
