The Canon A2E is a 35mm SLR camera featuring autofocus and auto exposure capabilities. This camera works with Canon EF-mount lenses. The three built-in metering modes are selectable by using the command dial. You can choose one of the 9 exposure modes that include Flash AE and X mode for the built-in zoom flash. The camera can take up to 9 exposures on a single image. You can take 3 continuous shots with this camera. The camera has a maximum shutter speed of 1/8000th of a second to capture images of fast-moving objects. The film speed is automatically set to ISO 25–5000. You can use an external flash with the camera via hot shoe and PC terminal. This Canon SLR is powered by a single 6V lithium battery.

Optics and Focus

The camera can be used with Canon EF-mount lenses. You can select the metering method by using the rear command dial. This camera uses the TTL-SIR 5-point phase detection focusing with cross-type BASIS. There are two focusing methods; one is the eye-controlled focus and the other is AF point focus. The eye-controlled focus works by detecting your eye movement as you look at a particular AF frame in the viewfinder while the camera automatically selects the AF point. This camera also has three focusing modes intended for capturing images of still objects and when the objects are in motion. You can also focus on the full auto mode with the AI Focus AF.

Sensor and Screen

The camera has a fixed optical viewfinder with 0.73× magnification and frame coverage of 92% on the horizontal and 94% on the vertical axis. On the viewfinder screen, you can see the five AF frame indicators at the center and depth of field mark on the top left side. At the bottom, there are indicators for exposure along with exposure compensation mode indicator, aperture value, shutter speed and more. The camera also has an LCD panel on its top right that shows the same information as in the viewfinder with the addition of battery level, eye-controlled focus, film winding, film check and load, and focus modes.

Image and Video

The camera captures photos on 35mm films. Thanks to the automatic film loading mechanism, the hassle of winding the lever manually is taken away. Also, the miniature motor drive contributes to the continuous shooting at 5 fps. The camera can take three sequential shots, one at standard exposure value, one above and one below. You can overlay up to 9 exposures on a single frame.

Other Features

This Canon SLR has a built-in zoom flash with a guide number of 13–17 m at ISO 100 and recycle time of 2 seconds. The camera offers electronic flash synchronization with its hoe shoe contact at 1/200th of a second. You can also use the flash unit off-camera with the PC terminal. The camera shake warning notifies you when the shutter speed drops lower than the fraction of the lens' focal length. You can delay the shutter release by 10 seconds with the self-timer. There are 16 customizable functions to which you can assign the regularly used camera feature. The camera functions on a 6V lithium battery.
