Shooting snowflakes: Winter photography

Hey folks! The winters are approaching. Soon, we will be witnessing snowfall in most parts of America. In addition to the snow-laden landscapes, the clear blue sky, and the mist, the one thing that photographers can make visible are snowflakes. These tiny designs of ice are so unique that not one shape resembles the other. What’s more, only a photographer can bring this spectacular phenomenon to light. However, one thing to keep in mind is that the lifetime of snowflakes is too small, so one has to shoot them in the nick of time to get a perfect picture.

To capture the shapes in all their beautiful symmetry, you will have to do macro photography. Shooting in macro mode can be a lot of fun. Also, it does not require much equipment. A good macro lens will do the job. You can choose to use the inbuilt macro mode of your camera as well. Without drilling a hole in your pocket, you can take exceptional pictures this winter.

Here, Kenneth Libbrecht, an expert on the subject, talks about the unmatched beauty of snowflakes, and how you can go about shooting them.

Snowflakes are only one of the things that you can capture in the winters. During the course of the next few weeks, we will cover more interesting topics and subjects that you can capture as part of your winter-photography project.
