Halloween Photos: Tricks to treat

The day of the year when you just can’t avoid taking photos, the day when every photo will, perhaps, pass for a caption contest, the day when being a wacko is all the more insisted on, and indeed celebrated. Yes, folks! Halloween day is here!

Besides orange pumpkins, nasty costumes, and bizarre Halloween décor, you will go back to the photographs you take on the day for years. There are no rules, but you can keep a few things in mind to click those memorable snaps.

  • It is strange why people wait for the night to really get into action. No doubt, the celebrations kick off at night, but you can start taking some snaps when daylight is still available.

  • Halloween pictures are less about framing and more about catching the awesome costumes and expressions on the faces. For that, you will have to probably stoop to keep everyone in the frame.

  • Let’s face it, you won’t be able to ask children in Halloween costumes to pose for you. You will just have to be on your toes. It is time you applied those on-the-move photography tricks.

Apart from these general tips, it would be great if you shot in the portrait and night modes. This way, you’ll be able to bring out the details of the background as well. Also, try to shoot with a slow shutter speed to make it look as natural as possible. It will also require you to tell your subject to keep still.

And since we are talking about keeping still, using a tripod will also lend stability to your camera and prevent motion blurs. Most of the time, you will be working in dark conditions. Do check the maximum reach of the flash. In most cameras, it is close to 15 ft, but double checking will help you avoid the dark lightning effect you so often come across in scary movies. Although it looks really cool on screen, it is not meant for photographers. It mystifies a lot of details of the frame, and the picture ends up looking half black.

Unique photo team wishes you a great Halloween. Hope you live up the day to recall it until next year’s Halloween.

Happy Halloween once again.
