Camera Review: Sony Cybershot DSC- W220 & W810

Sony has expanded its range of point-and-shoot cameras under the Cyber-shot lineup by introducing two new models, the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W810 and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 digital cameras. Here’s a look at some of the basic specifications of these newly-released cameras, along with an overview of their performance.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 Digital Camera has an 18.2 MP 1/2.3" Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor, which, along with its BIONZ X image processor, delivers great performance even in low-light conditions, and provides a faster speed. The ISO range goes up to 3,200. The combination of this CMOS sensor and BIONZ X image processor also facilitates continuous shooting at up to 10 fps, and video recording can be done at 60 fps in the Full HD 1080p format. The Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 camera comes with a 10x Sony G zoom lens that offers a 25–250-mm zoom range. It also features the Optical SteadyShot image stabilization, so there is little or no hint of camera shake in the images. To expand the zoom range, the camera has Clear Image Zoom that provides up to 20x zoom, and the image quality is effectively maintained with its intelligent interpolation methods.

The camera also has smart features. It has inbuilt Wi-Fi and also comes with NFC support with tap-to-connect technology, allowing for ease of transferring and sharing data. With its Smart Remote Control application, images can be transferred directly, without any cables and connectors, from the camera to a linked mobile device. The app also allows you to control the digital camera right from a tablet or smartphone.

Here are some additional interesting features and shooting modes. The camera has a Motion Shot Video, which comes in handy when you want to superimpose multiple pictures on one background for rendering moving subjects. To stitch 360° panorama shots with motion compensation, there’s the Sweep Panorama option. Nine different styles are offered by the camera’s Picture Effect. The Cyber-shot DSC-WX220 allows you to view 4K stills on a 4K TV by means of an HDMI output.

Next up in the new line-up of Cyber-shot digital cameras is the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W810, which has a 20.1 MP 1/2.3" Super HAD CCD sensor combined with a powerful 26-156 mm-equivalent optical zoom lens to deliver high-resolution images. While shooting in tough environments, sharp images can be achieved with the SteadyShot Image Stabilization, paired with the Active mode. As for video recording, the camera can record 720p HD videos at 30 fps.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W810 is a delight for those who enjoy easy-to-use shooting modes. The camera has different modes, such as Easy, Party, and Picture Effect for creative shooting. For portraits, there’s the Smile Shutter system that instantly clicks a picture upon detecting a subject’s smile. Panorama delivers beautiful panoramic images and Sweep Panorama lets you stitch 360° panorama shots.
