The Nikon D40x Digital SLR camera is easy to use and offers high-resolution imaging results. This DSLR can work with Nikon F-mount lenses. The 23.6×15.8mm Nikon DX format CCD sensor provides 10.2 MP images. With the improved Nikon Image Processing Engine, the camera gives accurate exposure, wide ISO range, neutral color rendition. This camera can capture eight consecutive images per second. With the digital vari-program modes, you can use the camera in any lighting condition without manually adjusting the settings. The built-in Speedlight flash offers an effective range of 59 feet. This camera can be directly connected to the printer as it comes with PictBridge support. The camera's EN-EL9 Li-ion battery offers 520 shots per charge.

Optics and Focus

The camera can be fitted with a Nikon F-mount lens. It supports all the functions for AF-S and AF-I lenses. This camera also supports Nikon VR lenses. The Nikon D40x comes with the Nikon Multi-CAM 530 autofocus module that uses the TTL phase detection to offer precision in focusing operation. Various focusing modes such as Instant single-servo AF and continuous-servo AF bring flexibility in the focusing work. The camera ISO can be adjusted from 100–1600 in 1 EV steps. Speed up the shutter up to a limit of 1/4000th of a second to capture images of moving objects with clarity.

Sensor and Screen

The camera has a fixed eye-level Penta-Dach mirror viewfinder with a Type-B BriteView Mark IV clear matte screen. You can adjust the diopter from -1.7 to +0.5 dpt. In the viewfinder, you can see the current shutter speed, exposure reading, selected exposure mode, flash output compensation and flash ready, focus indications and other camera-related information. The 2.5-inch TFT color LCD provides 230K-dot resolution view of the scene. You can vary the screen brightness according to your need.

Image and Video

The Nikon D40x provides 10.2 MP still shots at a maximum resolution of 3872×2592 pixels in RAW and JPEG format. Also, the image resolution can be set to 2896×1944 pixels and 1936×1296 pixels. With this camera, you can take up to 100 consecutive JPEG shots at a rate of 3 fps. There are up to eight digital vari-program modes that take the burden off your shoulders of adjusting the camera setting for a particular scene. The auto white balance of the camera is managed by the 420-pixel RGB sensor. Additionally, you can manually choose from six modes to determine the look of the image.

Other Features

The camera has a built-in flash that offers illumination up to a maximum range of 59 feet. You can also mount an external flash unit to the camera via the hot shoe. The 420-segment RGB sensor supports the i-TTL flash control to alter the flash intensity according to the light in the scene. After mounting the flash, the camera shutter synchronizes with it at 1/200th of a second. You can edit the images in-camera to correct any anomalies. The self-timer function offers shutter delay at 2, 5, 10 and 20 seconds. You get the PictureProject software along with this Nikon camera.
