Will tripod quick-release plates with a locating pin fit a Nikon D7000?

I’m looking at tripods for a Nikon D7000 and many quick-release plates have a small pin next to the main 1/4" mounting screw. The D7000 doesn’t appear to have a matching anti-rotation hole close to the tripod socket. Will these plates still fit the camera, and is there a Nikon-specific plate standard I should be looking for?

That pin that you've circled will be a spring loaded pin that will retract. Some cameras may have a hole that pin will fit into to keep the camera from swiveling, but if the camera has no hole, the pin will retract and won't be in the way.

By the way, the pictured tripod looks pretty light. If you have a large lens on your D7000 that tripod will probably work, but doesn't look like a really sturdy tripod. You can read up on recommendations here

Yes. The small pin on many quick-release plates is typically a spring-loaded anti-rotation pin. If a camera has a matching hole, the pin can help stop twisting; if it doesn’t, the pin simply retracts and the plate still mounts normally.

So there is not usually a special Nikon-only tripod plate standard for the D7000 body itself. What matters more is the quick-release system used by the tripod head or plate design (for example, proprietary systems from brands like Manfrotto, or other plate standards depending on the head).

In short: a plate like the one shown should still work with a Nikon D7000 even without a nearby hole for that pin.

Also, be careful about very light or flimsy tripods, especially if you plan to use larger lenses. Stability and head quality matter as much as plate compatibility.
