I’m considering using a Tamron 18-250mm K-mount lens on a Pentax K10D. Will autofocus work on this combination, and are there any firmware requirements or compatibility issues to check first?

If the version of the firmware on your K10D is at least 1.30, then autofocus will operate with all K-mount variants of the lens. If not, variants of the lens that do not have an AF coupler at the lens mount (if they exist for the K mount) will not be able to autofocus.

Yes—autofocus can work with a Pentax K10D and a K-mount Tamron 18-250mm, provided the camera firmware is version 1.30 or later. With firmware 1.30+, autofocus should operate with all K-mount versions of the lens.
If the camera is running older firmware, some K-mount variants that do not have an AF coupler at the lens mount may not autofocus.
So the key step is to check and, if needed, update the K10D firmware before judging compatibility. The provided answers do not give a reliable measure of AF speed or performance, so it’s safest to say only that compatibility depends on firmware and lens version.
