Why won’t my Canon EOS 1300D trigger a studio flash through a hot-shoe sync adapter?

I’m trying to trigger a Jinbei Spark-II 300 studio flash from a Canon EOS 1300D using a simple hot-shoe adapter with a sync port. The flash does not fire on the Canon, but the same adapter works on a Nikon D200 and an Olympus E-520. Flash is enabled on the camera, and I’ve tested with Live View both on and off. What could cause this?

It was a faulty connection on the adapter. Bought a different one which fit way better on the camera. Works like a charm. Thanks for all the help though!

In this case, the cause was a faulty or poor-fitting hot-shoe adapter connection on the Canon EOS 1300D. Replacing the adapter with a different one that fit the camera’s hot shoe more securely solved the problem and the studio flash triggered normally.

If a sync adapter works on one camera but not another, the most likely issue is often mechanical or electrical contact at the hot shoe rather than a camera setting. A loose adapter, poor center-pin contact, or an adapter that doesn’t seat properly can prevent the trigger signal from reaching the flash.
