Why is there a faint dark circle in the corner of my photos?

I’m seeing a faint darkened circle in the same area of my images, even after cleaning the lens. The camera is a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II, and there is no post-processing involved. What typically causes a mark like this, and how should I fix it?

Looks like a hair on the sensor. Use your camera's built-in sensor cleaning function to see if you can dislodge it. If that doesn't work, you may have to clean it manually or take it to a camera shop that offers such a service.

Dust or hairs in the lens won't show up in photographs as they are too far from the plane of focus to be visible; have a look at this page to see how much you have to do to a lens to affect the photograph!

A faint spot or circle that stays in the same place from shot to shot is most likely dust or a hair on the camera’s sensor, not inside the lens. Debris in the lens is usually too far from the plane of focus to show up clearly in photos.

Start with the camera’s built-in sensor cleaning function. If the mark remains, use a hand blower to try to dislodge the debris. If that still doesn’t fix it, the sensor may need manual cleaning with a proper sensor-cleaning kit, or you can have a camera shop do it for you.

Be careful with manual cleaning: use tools meant for sensor cleaning and avoid touching the sensor with ordinary cloths or anything abrasive.
