I’m buying a Canon EOS Rebel T3 with the 18-55mm kit lens and can choose one extra telephoto lens: the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 or the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. I mainly shoot street, abstract, and nature photos. Which lens is the better fit for those subjects on a T3, and what are the main pros and cons of each?

I would get the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens. Some reasons why:
- Image stabilization
- Smaller size(2cm less)
- Less weight(86g less)
- Significantly higher value
- Newer design
- Better image quality
- Higher maximum magnification
- Shorter minimum focus distance

For a Canon T3, the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS is the better choice for your stated uses.
Why it stands out:
- Image stabilization helps a lot for handheld shooting, especially at longer focal lengths.
- Better image quality overall, based on the community responses.
- Smaller and lighter, so it’s easier to carry for street and general walkaround use.
- Closer minimum focus distance and higher maximum magnification make it more useful for detail and nature shots.
- Starts at 55mm instead of 75mm, which gives you a more practical range alongside the 18-55 kit lens.
- It’s designed for Canon APS-C cameras like the T3, so it makes sense as a telephoto option on that body.
The main advantage of the 75-300mm is the extra reach to 300mm, but the tradeoff is no stabilization and generally lower value and image quality according to the answers provided.
Unless you specifically need the longest possible reach, the 55-250mm IS is the more versatile and user-friendly lens for street, abstract, and nature photography on your T3.
