Why is my Epson SureColor P600 printing cyan casts and failing the last nozzle-check pattern?

My Epson SureColor P600 had been printing normally, but it suddenly started producing odd cyan color shifts. I ran a nozzle check and head cleaning, but the issue remains. The last pattern on the nozzle check is consistently incorrect or missing. It affects both color and black-and-white prints, and it happens on different papers. I print from Photoshop with Photoshop managing color and the correct profiles. What is the most likely cause, and what should I check first?

I'm not sure this question really belongs here, but will try to help as there isn't a printing stack.... As an ex Epson engineer, I can say that you (quite clearly) have no matte black feeding.

Remove the cartridge, shake it, is it empty?

If not Have you left the vacuum seal tab on the cartridge?

The most likely issue is a problem with the matte black ink channel rather than Photoshop or paper settings. One answer points out that the failed last nozzle-check pattern indicates matte black may not be feeding properly, which can cause color balance problems including cyan-looking casts, even in black-and-white prints.

First checks:

  • Remove the matte black cartridge and make sure it isn’t empty.
  • If it has ink, confirm any seal/vacuum tab was fully removed.
  • Run a normal cleaning cycle; if that doesn’t help, try a deep cleaning.

Because the problem appears on multiple papers and in both color and B&W, it’s less likely to be a profile or paper mismatch and more likely to be an ink delivery/nozzle issue. If cleaning and cartridge checks don’t restore the missing nozzle-check pattern, the printer may need service.
