Why doesn’t Photoshop CS3 show the Content-Aware Fill option?

I’m trying to remove unwanted objects from an image in Photoshop CS3. Tutorials say to use Edit > Fill > Content-Aware, but that option does not appear in my Fill dialog.
Is Content-Aware Fill available in Photoshop CS3, or do I need a newer version? If CS3 doesn’t support it, what are the alternatives?

If I remember correctly content aware fill was added to Photoshop in version CS5 (and improved in CS6) - so, you're only options are to either upgrade Photoshop or find a non-content-aware solution.

Photoshop CS3 does not include Content-Aware Fill. That feature was introduced in Photoshop CS5 and improved in CS6.
So if you’re using CS3, the option will not appear in Edit > Fill. CS4 had some content-aware scaling features, but not the full Content-Aware Fill tool you’re looking for.
Your practical options are:
- upgrade to a newer Photoshop version that includes Content-Aware Fill
- use traditional retouching tools in CS3, such as Clone Stamp or Healing tools
- try a free alternative such as GIMP with the Resynthesizer plugin
In short: there’s nothing wrong with your CS3 installation; the feature simply doesn’t exist in that version.
