Why does my Yongnuo YN-565EX stop responding when the LCD backlight turns off?

I’m using a Canon 6D with a YN-622C II on the camera and another YN-622C II off-camera with a YN-565EX flash. Right after powering everything on, I can fire the flash and change settings from the camera menu. But once the flash’s LCD panel light goes out after about 15 seconds, the flash no longer fires and I can’t change settings from the camera.
The flash is not intentionally set to sleep mode. Is the LCD backlight timing out the same as the flash going to sleep, or is something else wrong? Can the LCD stay lit all the time?

From the YN565EX manual:
9. Power Saving Mode
YN565EX provides shrinkable power-saving mode; this power-saving mode can set through long press on [Advanced option] button. Long press the [Advanced option] to enter the setting state and select the option with number 01 through [up] and [down] buttons. When pressing the [right] button to set the state as SL EP - -, this means to disable the function of “automatic power off”. When it is set as SL EP on, this means that the function of “automatic power off” is enabled, the following table lists the power-saving mode that is set through advanced option.
EDIT:
I recall an issue with YN565EX and sleep mode. Actually it wasn't a problem with the flash unit but with the camera going to sleep mode. Anyway, you may check The Other YN-622C User Guide. It has a lot of information regarding the use of those triggers.

Generated from our catalog & community — verify before relying on it.
The 15-second timeout is normally just the LCD backlight turning off, not the flash going to sleep. The flash should still work after the panel light goes dim, and the display data should still be visible if you shine light on it.
On the YN-565EX, actual power-saving/sleep behavior is a separate setting. According to the manual, automatic power-off can be enabled or disabled in the advanced options. The shortest normal sleep interval is much longer than 15 seconds.
So if the flash truly stops communicating as soon as the backlight goes out, that suggests a problem rather than normal behavior. Check:
- the flash’s sleep/power-saving setting in the advanced menu
- whether the camera or trigger is going to sleep instead
- battery condition and contacts
There may be a setting for the LCD backlight timeout, but keeping the backlight on is not the same as keeping the flash awake. If the flash becomes unusable after only 15 seconds, it’s likely a fault or misconfiguration, not expected operation.
