A common cause is dirt or dust on the scanner’s calibration area, often on the underside/top plate area used for film scanning. If that calibration reference is dirty, scans can develop colored streaks or casts like the red blur you’re seeing.

Start by carefully cleaning the scanner glass and especially the calibration strip/area in the lid or top scanning plate, following the scanner manual if possible. Then rescan and see whether the stripe pattern changes or disappears.

It’s unlikely to be the cable: scanner data is digital, and cable faults usually cause communication errors rather than consistent red streaking across every scan.

If cleaning the accessible surfaces doesn’t help, dust may be inside the scanner assembly. In that case, internal cleaning or service may be needed, ideally by a qualified technician rather than disassembling it yourself unless you’re experienced.
