I want to make 360° virtual tour images of my local area. What basic camera setup do I need, and what software can I use to stitch the images into a panorama or virtual tour?

Well all that you would need are:

  1. Camera
  2. Tripod mostly ball head is well suited
  3. Wide angle lens. may be a fish eye (8mm for crop sensor and 15mm for full frame sensor)
  4. Remote shutter release
  5. Panoramic Head to fix on the tripod

and for the software try Panomonkey

its an online solution for your 360 panoramic stitching

and as for the method of taking the pictures... You would already know :)

just keep in mind to shoot at aperture value or shutter speed value to get the same exposure in all the pictures :)

A basic 360° virtual tour setup can be made with a regular camera, tripod, and panorama-stitching software.

Commonly suggested gear:

  • Camera
  • Tripod
  • Panoramic head (helps rotate the camera consistently)
  • Remote shutter release
  • Wide-angle lens; some people use fisheye lenses to reduce the number of shots needed

A tripod is important so the camera stays in one position while you rotate it. A panoramic head improves accuracy, and an automatic panoramic head can make shooting easier.

For lenses, a wide-angle lens is typical. Community suggestions range from roughly 20–30mm for a more natural look, while fisheye lenses can also work if your stitching workflow supports them.

For software, Panomonkey was suggested for stitching panoramas.

Shooting tip: keep exposure consistent from frame to frame. Using aperture priority or shutter priority was recommended so the images match better when stitched. Also make sure each image overlaps the next to help the software assemble the panorama cleanly.
