What camera do I need to photograph falling autumn leaves on a £250 budget?

I'm new to photography and last autumn I struggled to capture falling leaves using my phone. Do I need any special camera or lens for this, or is it more about technique and lighting? My starting budget is about £250, and ideally I'd like a camera that can handle this kind of shot as well as general beginner photography.

I suggest that you start out with a point-and-shoot in the $300 range. Stick to name brands like Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Panasonic. I like the models that have both a LCD viewing screen and an eyelevel viewfinder. This is because the eyelevel viewfinder works in bright sunlight. For my last "leafer" trip to New England I kept in my pocket a Panasonic with GPS. I proudly show these images of the leaves.

You do not need a special camera just for falling leaves. The bigger factors are light, timing, and technique. A compact point-and-shoot from a major brand (Canon, Nikon, Sony, Panasonic, Fuji) can be a fine beginner option around your budget, and a model with both an LCD and an eye-level viewfinder can be useful outdoors in bright light.

If you want more control, a used entry-level DSLR with an 18–55mm kit lens is also a good starter choice and can fit within a £250 budget if you shop used carefully.

For this subject, keep expectations realistic: many striking “falling leaf” photos depend more on controlled conditions than on expensive gear. Good light, patience, and experimenting matter a lot, and some dramatic images may use tripods, artificial lighting, or staged setups.

So the best answer is: buy a solid beginner camera within budget, then focus on learning technique rather than chasing specialized equipment.
