Should I choose the EF-M 55-200mm or an EF-S 55-250mm with adapter for a Canon EOS M camera?

I ordered the Canon EF-M 55-200mm for my EOS M mirrorless camera. After ordering, I started looking at EF and EF-S telephoto zooms, especially the EF-S 55-250mm, which could be used with an adapter. Did I make a mistake buying the EF-M lens? In general, is it better to use a native EF-M telephoto zoom, or an EF/EF-S lens with an adapter on an EOS M body?

You probably did not make a mistake. For an EOS M body, the EF-M 55-200mm is the more natural match because it is designed specifically for that system: it is smaller, lighter, and does not require an adapter. That usually makes the camera/lens combination more balanced and convenient for everyday use.
An EF-S 55-250mm with the Canon EF-EOS M adapter can also work well, and its main advantage is extra reach to 250mm. However, adding an adapter makes the setup longer and less compact, which reduces one of the main benefits of EOS M cameras.
So the better choice depends on your priority:
- choose EF-M 55-200mm if you want portability and a cleaner native setup
- choose EF-S 55-250mm + adapter if you specifically want more telephoto reach and do not mind the larger setup
If you mainly wanted a compact mirrorless kit, the EF-M lens is a sensible choice.
