Photoshop on Mac prints smaller than the set image size

I'm printing from Photoshop CC on a MacBook to an Epson 9600, but the print comes out slightly smaller than expected. For example, a 6x8 inch image prints at about 6x7.75 inches. In Photoshop, both image size and canvas size are set to 6x8, scaling is disabled, and the preview shows 100% at 6x8. The paper/page size is set to a custom 8x8 inches. What could cause Photoshop to print at the wrong size?

If Photoshop shows the correct size and scaling is off, but the print still comes out undersized, the issue may be software-related rather than a document setup problem. In the reported case, updating the computer software and reinstalling Photoshop resolved it, after which prints matched the intended size.

So if your size settings, canvas size, and print scaling all look correct, try basic troubleshooting:

  • restart the Mac and printer
  • update macOS and printer software/drivers
  • reset Photoshop print settings if possible
  • uninstall and reinstall Photoshop

Corrupted software or print settings can cause size mismatches even when the preview looks correct.
