I shoot with a Nikon D7000 and a 14-24mm wide-angle lens, and some images show noticeable barrel distortion. I’m looking for Mac software to correct lens distortion, preferably something that works as an Aperture plug-in. I don’t have Photoshop. What options are available?

You can use Hugin to do these types of corrections.

They also have a nice guide for lens calibration, which allows you to calibrate for the distortion of your lens, then save those settings to apply later.

Yes—there are several Mac options for correcting barrel distortion.

The closest match to what you want is PTLens, which supports macOS and can be used as an Aperture plug-in. It uses lens correction profiles, reads EXIF data, and can automatically account for the lens and zoom setting used.

Other options mentioned:

  • Hugin: can correct distortion and also lets you calibrate your lens and save those settings for future use.
  • Bibble: supports Mac and has lens correction tools, though it’s more of a standalone editor than an Aperture plug-in.
  • Adobe Lightroom 3 / Photoshop CS5: Adobe lens profiles are available for some lenses, but this only helps if you use Adobe software.

If you want an Aperture-friendly Mac solution without Photoshop, PTLens is the most direct fit from the options given.
