How should I clean dust on the DSLR viewfinder eyepiece?

There is dust visible in my DSLR viewfinder, and it seems to be on or around the eyepiece rather than on the sensor. I’ve already checked and cleaned other visible areas, but the dust is still there when I look through the viewfinder. Since it doesn’t affect image quality, should I just ignore it, or is it worth cleaning? Could dust in this area get into the camera and reach the sensor?

This happens and while it has no effect on image-quality, it is quite distracting. It looks like you have quite a few and its a good time to clean it.

They make special cleaning tools for that which is basically the same as a lens pen but smaller. The key is not to wet your camera because it is not weather-sealed. Otherwise you can even just rinse it which I've done several times with a number of DSLRs.

Dust on the viewfinder eyepiece usually does not affect image quality, because it is not on the sensor or in the image path recorded by the camera. However, it can be distracting when composing, so it’s reasonable to clean it.

Use a tool intended for small optical surfaces, such as a viewfinder/lens cleaning pen or another dry cleaning method. Be careful not to get the camera wet, especially if it is not weather-sealed. In general, this is more of a viewing annoyance than a photo-quality problem.

So: if it doesn’t bother you, you can ignore it. If it is distracting, clean the eyepiece carefully with proper optical cleaning tools.
