How far away can a Nikon P900 focus?

The Nikon P900 has a very long zoom, often described as up to a 2000mm full-frame equivalent. Does that limit how far away a subject can be and still be in focus, or can it focus on very distant subjects like the moon or stars?

With only a very few exceptions, every lens on every camera can focus to infinity - i.e. you can focus on an object arbitrarily far away. Another way of putting this is "focal length is not what you're thinking it is" - for that, see What is focal length and how does it affect my photographs?.

The P900 can focus at essentially any very large distance because, like most camera lenses, it focuses to infinity. So the farthest distance is not a practical limit set by the 2000mm equivalent focal length.
What the long focal length changes is magnification and angle of view, not the maximum focus distance. A longer focal length makes distant subjects appear larger in the frame, but it does not prevent the lens from focusing on faraway objects.
In practical terms, the P900 can focus on extremely distant subjects such as mountains, the moon, stars, and planets. "Infinity" is the usual term for this far-distance focus setting.
The more relevant focus limitation on this camera is actually the near end: it also has a close-focus or “macro/micro” mode for subjects very near the lens.
