The Fujinon XF 35mm f/1.4 R does not use a push-pull focus ring to change focus modes. On this lens, autofocus/manual focus is normally selected using the camera body’s focus mode switch or menu settings, depending on the Fujifilm camera model.

So if the ring won’t pull out, that is likely normal behavior rather than a fault with the lens. Check your camera body for the AF/MF selector and set it there. If autofocus still does not engage after that, then test the lens on another body or review the camera’s focus settings.
