How do I tighten the quick-release plate on a Manfrotto MH055M8-Q5 when the camera blocks the knob?

I’ve mounted my camera to the quick-release plate on a Manfrotto MH055M8-Q5 head, but once the camera is in place I can’t fully turn the tightening knob because the camera body gets in the way. Am I mounting it incorrectly, or is there a specific way this knob is meant to be used?

One of the features on many Manfrotto heads is that the quick-release plate knobs are spring-loaded... Essentially this will enable you to pull the knobs outward which will allow them to be readjusted without tightening (or loosening) the underlying bolt. This gives the ability to 'ratchet tighten' the bolt by shifting the knob when space gets tight.

You’re likely mounting it correctly. On many Manfrotto heads, the quick-release plate knob is spring-loaded. If the camera blocks a full turn, pull the knob outward slightly and reposition it without turning the bolt underneath. Then release it and continue tightening. This lets you effectively “ratchet” the knob in small increments when space is limited.
So the obstruction doesn’t necessarily mean anything is wrong—the knob is designed to be re-indexed when clearance is tight.
