How do I stop a Nikon D7000 from autofocus hunting when using a remote release?

When I trigger my Nikon D7000 with a remote, the camera tries to autofocus before taking the shot. I want to use the remote for tripod shooting without the camera refocusing or causing delays. Is there a way to disable autofocus when using a remote, or do I need to use manual focus first?

You can turn off autofocus using the dial at the bottom left side (when looking though the viewfinder), beside the bajonett. Turn it from AF to M to disable autofocus. You then need to focus the lens manually. You may also auto-focus first, then switch to M before using a remote trigger.

On the Nikon D7000, the practical solution is to switch the camera/lens to manual focus before using the remote. Use the AF/M selector on the front of the camera by the lens mount and set it to M, then focus manually. A common workflow is to autofocus first, then switch to M so focus stays locked while you trigger the shutter remotely.

Based on the answers provided, there isn’t a separate remote setting that disables autofocus behavior by itself; you need to handle focus manually on the camera/lens.
