How do I set up a Yongnuo YN560 IV with RF-603N II for off-camera flash on Nikon?

I'm trying to fire a Yongnuo YN560 IV off-camera using RF-603N II transceivers on a Nikon camera, but the flash won't trigger. My camera is in manual mode at 1/200 sec, f/8, ISO 100. I set both RF-603N II units to channel 1, and I had both transceivers in TX mode. I also set the YN560 IV to channel 1 and TX mode. What is the correct transmitter/receiver setup for this combination?

You need to put the flash in RX (receive) mode.

Your issue is the mode setup: the off-camera flash needs to be a receiver, not a transmitter.

Use it like this:

  • RF-603N II on the camera: TX mode, or TRX on Nikon if you want it to auto-detect.
  • Off-camera YN560 IV: RX mode.
  • Make sure both are on the same channel.

TX means transmit; RX means receive. If the flash is set to TX, then both devices are trying to transmit, so nothing is listening for the trigger.

Also, on Nikon, the RF-603N II can often be left in TRX mode rather than TX. In TRX mode it can automatically act as transmitter on the camera or receiver when a flash is attached, based on how it’s connected.

So the key fix is: set the YN560 IV to RX mode and keep channel settings matched.
