My Nikon D90 no longer shows the information display along the bottom of the optical viewfinder. Is there a setting or reset that can bring it back, and what should I do if that doesn’t fix it?

You could first try resetting the settings of the camera by doing the following: Press the two buttons with the green dots by them, AF Mode and Exposure Compensation button. Hold them together at the same time for a few seconds. This is also in the manual.

If that fails, it is likely an issue that you have to send the camera to a Nikon repair facility for. This seems to be a somewhat common issue that others have had. Nikon ended up repairing faulty wiring it seems. See:

First, try resetting the camera settings using the Nikon two-button reset: press and hold the two buttons marked with green dots (the AF mode and exposure compensation buttons) for a few seconds. This is described in the manual and may restore the viewfinder information display if a setting was changed.

If the display still does not return, it is likely not a user setting. Reports from other D90 owners suggest this can be a hardware fault, sometimes related to internal wiring, and may require service from Nikon or a qualified camera repair shop.
