How do I remove a Micro Four Thirds adapter stuck on a Sigma EF-mount lens?

I have a Sigma 24mm f/2.8 lens that I believed was EF mount, but it has been used on Micro Four Thirds cameras with an adapter attached. Now I want to use it on a Canon camera, but the adapter will not come off. The adapter has an aperture control ring, and it looks like the release button may be missing—there is only a small hole where the button might have been. Is this likely just the adapter, and how can I remove it safely?

The release button on your adapter seems to be missing. You need to see if you can use something to press the spring-loaded switch that seems to be visible in the hole left by the missing button.

It sounds like the adapter is still attached to the lens, and the missing release button is likely why it won’t come off. On this type of adapter, the button normally presses a spring-loaded locking catch. If the button is gone, you may still be able to remove the adapter by carefully pressing the spring-loaded switch through the hole where the button used to be, then twisting the adapter off.

Be gentle and use a small tool only if needed, taking care not to scratch the lens or adapter. The aperture ring is likely part of the adapter, not the lens itself, which is common with some adapted lenses.

If it still won’t release, stop forcing it to avoid damage and have a camera repair shop take a look.
