I recently upgraded from a Canon 30D to an EOS 760D and want to use back-button autofocus. I can’t find the custom function for it in the menus. Does the 760D support back-button AF, and if so, where is the setting?

Go to page 357 of the 760D manual. You need to use a Custom Function to change the AE Lock button to a Back Button focus button.

Use C.Fn-10 set to option 1.

Here is a video that also describes how to do it: How-to back button focus on the Canon T4i, T5i, T6i, T6s

Yes — the Canon EOS 760D does support back-button autofocus.

To enable it, go into the camera’s Custom Functions and change the AE Lock button behavior so it starts autofocus instead of using the shutter button for AF. According to the community answers, this is:

  • Custom Function IV
  • C.Fn-10
  • Set it to Option 1

One answer also notes you may need to be in a creative shooting mode (such as Manual) to access that Custom Function menu.

After this change, autofocus can be activated with the rear AE Lock button, which gives you the usual back-button AF behavior.
