How do I connect a Nikon D5300 to a phone when Wi‑Fi asks for a WPA2 password?

My Nikon D5300’s built-in Wi‑Fi is asking my phone for a WPA2 password when I try to connect. Many setup guides say the camera’s network should be open, so I’m not sure where this password comes from or how to change it. How can I connect, and can I reset the Wi‑Fi settings if needed?

The camera uses WPS for WiFi security. On your android device, go to

Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced Menu -> WPS Push Button.

Then press WPS button on the camera. Here's a page from user manual explaining how to press WPS button in camera settings.

In a few seconds, phone should connect to WiFi.

The D5300 can use either WPS or WPA2 security for its Wi‑Fi connection.

If your phone supports WPS, try pairing that way first: on the phone go to Wi‑Fi settings and use the WPS push-button option, then enable Wi‑Fi/WPS on the camera from the Wi‑Fi menu. The camera manual’s Wi‑Fi section explains where this is.

If your device does not support WPS, or the camera is already set to WPA2 and you don’t know the password, reset the camera’s network settings:

Menu > Setup Menu > Wi‑Fi > enable Network connection, then go to Network settings > Reset network settings.

This should return the camera Wi‑Fi to an open connection so you can join without a password. After connecting with Nikon’s Wireless Mobile Utility app, you can re-enable WPA2 in the app/settings and set a new password.

If needed, check the D5300 manual’s Wi‑Fi pages for the exact menu flow.
